Default KTM KL - IPOH Route

Give praise when praise is due. This KTM services between Ipoh and Kuala Lumpur is the best thing to happen since slice bread. For those who find driving too stressful, and taking coaches too dangerous, this is the best alternative. It's cheaper, cleaner, safer, comfortable and more punctual than sitting on the long distance coaches. On the Limited-Stop service, it took 2.45 hrs to complete the journey, plus/minus 5 minutes, point to point. All very good.

2.45 hrs. on the Limited Stops train. Punctuality is about plus/minus 5 minutes. Not bad....not bad.

Are luggages safe? I heard stories you loose luggages often with KTM.

I was informed that a train ticket for the earliest train that leaves at 5 am costs only RM1 and available to everyone. I haven't checked and don't know if this is true.

Overhead luggage shelves are provided for your luggage so, it is unlikely somebody else can take them without you noticing. For bigger bags, you can place them in-between the back-to-back seats where there is a huge space. Also, difficult to remove without a struggle. I certainly felt safe because they are always within sight. Furthermore, the aisle are pretty narrow and it is not easy for somebody to grab your bag and run with it.

Thanks. But I am refering to the 27" tall non-hand carry types you normally checked in at the airports. You can't carry those on the coach compartments, can you? They must be stored someone else e.g. under the belly for express buses, unless the trains have a end section for luggages like those airport express trains. Haven't been in trains for long time, so a little mung cha cha....

There is no separate luggage storage compartment on the train. You'll have to take them inside with you. For bigger luggage, you can store them between the rear-facing seats and forward-facing seats. That was how I kept mine. To understand this, imagine half the coach has seats facing the direction the train is travelling and the other half is rear-facing. So, there is a fairly large gap in-between for luggage storage. Check it out. For RM10, it's worth it!
