Question Do you know of a good hospice or palliative care home in Ipoh?

Guys

I have a favour to ask.

Does anyone know of a good hospice or palliative care home in Ipoh?

Some place that's staffed by professionals, can handle fairly infirm or incapacitated senior citizens, provide physiotheraphy, drug monitoring etc?

My dad's has been battling stage iv cancer for a couple of years, and earlier this week, he had a couple of bad falls and attack of fits due to some bleeding in the brain (unfortunately the cancer's spread there). He's now stable in Fatimah's ICU and the neurosurgeon says when he's discharged (I'm keeping my fingers crossed), he'll need help taking daily care of himself. My mum, given her age, won't be able to handle that.

Rather than getting a maid or something, I'm thinking of getting him into a facility that has some good full time care for someone in his situation. Best is if the place allows my mum can stay there to keep him company as well.

Thanks very much, and I would be very grateful and appreciate any information you can provide me (via PM or in this thread) from the bottom of my heart.

sean.

ST, there's a place in Pasir Puteh that I had some recent contact with, sort of in between an old folks home and convalescence home, with some nursing care.

I don't think that there's any proper Macmillian type hospice in Ipoh at all. I found that, was the best thing for my father after some post operative surgery and required a lot of care.

If you are interested, I can get the full details off my sister.

Hey Sean,

There's supposed to be a pretty good place that takes care of old folks in Greentown. It's on the road that connects Tambun Road to Greentown that passes through the back gate of Indulgence. If you're turning in from Tambun Road after IELTS, go past the back gate of Indulgence then when you reach the sharp bend to the left it's in front of you on the right.

My prayers for you and your family.

Thanks for the info. Really appreciate it.

I'm returning to Singapore today. Need a frank discussion with my boss about work arrangements. So, I'll follow up on the leads you've kindly given me back in the office. Thanks again.

Yeah, that's a new Old Folks' Home next to the Army Camp and the name of the road is Jln Foo x x. Probably not for palliative care though.

The PPCS(lst link) is supposed to be located at No.1 Jalan Lasam which I thought is also the office of the Perak Academy. That's a nice area of old bungalows. (Latest note: they have since shifted to 14 Lebuh Woods, Canning Garden which is also a nice area.)

Hi Sean

So sorry to hear about your dad's health condition. Wishing all is well with him.

I know there's a nursing/convalescent home located at Gopeng Road (just somewhere behind the Fookien cemetery). My best friend's grandfather who is suffering from Alzheimer disease is staying there at the moment. I think they are paying around RM800-1000 per month.

Been there for a quite number of times . The place is quite big & clean and I have seen some many invalid elderly patients staying there.

If you are interested, I can drop by to that place today and get you the contact number.

Take care.

Dear Sean,

Sorry to hear about your father.

I know of an organisation PPCS (Perak Palliative Care Society) that provides services to terminal illness patients.

I am not sure whether the info is of any use. But there is no harm to give them a call.

Thanks.
