Default Vegetarian Restaurant in Ipoh

Report from The STAR dated Saturday 9 September 2006 :-

Nice spot for vegan fare

EXPECT the unexpected when dining at Nice Vegetarian Restaurant in Jalan Chung Ah Ming, Ipoh.

Rather than the run-of-the-mill vegetarian fare, the four-year-old restaurant also whips up mouth-watering Western cuisine.

Among the notable Western dishes are the pasta, spaghetti and chicken chop.

According to its co-owner Gan Ling Ling, the restaurant’s Western menu was a creation of her husband, Chin Mun Chong, 40, a former chef. NOTHING BUT THE BEST:Gan showing one of her restaurant's specialties, sweet and sour pumpkin prawn.Looking on is Chin.

“He likes to experiment with food, that is why there is a variety of food available in our restaurant,” she said.

If Western food is not your cup of tea, fret not as the restaurant also has other specialties such as kong poh eel, sweet and sour pumpkin prawn, fried fragrant rice, green curry fish and abalone.

If the name Nice Vegetarian Restaurant rings a bell, it used to operate in Greentown, Ipoh, during its earlier days.

The restaurant moved to the present location which is more spacious.
Gan, 36, said diners could be assured of the best from the restaurant in terms of food preparation.

For example, all vegetarian ingredients used to prepare the dishes are homemade.

“Previously, we used to order the vegetarian ingredients such as mock meat from a supplier but to ensure our diners get the best, we now produce our own ingredients,” she said.

In conjunction with the restaurant’s fourth anniversary celebration, it has come out with several mouth-watering offers.

Among them is the vegetarian steamboat where diners can have either tom yam, herbal or clear soup.

Diners, Gan said, just had to call the restaurant to book for the meal, which is available every Tuesday until the end of September.

Besides wedding dinners, the restaurant also caters to buffet.

The restaurant opens daily from 11am to 2.45pm, and 5pm to 9.45pm.
