Default French food

BEING well known as a food haven to many, Ipoh now adds another feather to its cap by presenting city folk with a taste of European fine-dining cuisine.

Located at the Regalodge Hotel, The Limestone’s offers a soothing atmosphere complete with shining silverware and plush seats.

Serving a wide variety of contemporary and traditional European delicacies, the setting is perfect for a romantic date or a relaxing meal with family and friends.

Featuring the creations of master chef Erwin Van de Vegte, the restaurant recently opened its doors after renovation work and months of trial runs.

Sight for sore eyes: A bright red lobster perched prominently on top of the fresh seafood selections.

“Staying true to the essence of French cuisine, we make it a point to make everything fresh in the kitchen; even the salad dressing and tomato sauce are made from scratch.

“That is why our patrons are able to taste the freshness and original flavours of the dishes,” he said.
Van de Vegte recommends the Homard Princess Canadienne Finest Choice (grilled Canadian lobster), prime-quality steaks and pate foie gras (goose liver pate).

The succulent lobster meat is grilled to perfection and blanketed by a layer of Mornay cheese on a bed of potato scramble.
Add a dash of butter lemon sauce and you get a tangy citrus flavour with the sweetness of the lobster meat.

With such a tempting dish, one may find it difficult to choose between seafood and The Limestone’s other star offering — its tender steaks.
Worry not, for Van de Vegte has saved diners that dilemma by including the Tournedos Surf and Turf that showcases the best of both worlds on the menu.

And voila, a perfect combination is born in the grilled beef tenderloin steak with apple soufflé and blue grape demi-glace, and half a grilled lobster.
It may be a common perception that food portions in fine-dining restaurants are small, but the Surf and Turf shatters that by its visually stunning presentation and hearty portions.

For those who love rice dishes, the Spanish Paella Saffron Rice with mussels, shrimps and Spanish seasoned peppers takes you a step further.
This dish is an array of colours — combining saffron-coloured rice, red shrimps and vibrant green and red peppers, providing a visual splendour on top of the delicious taste.

Resplendent colours are also a key feature of the Chicken Tempura Oriental Rice dish — a lightly battered chicken fillet with sweet and sour sauce.

“Response has been encouraging. We get many Japanese and European guests but I do hope to see more Malaysians warm up to the idea of French cuisine and fine dining,” Van de Vegte said.

The Limestone’s serves breakfast from 7am to 10.30am, high-tea from 2.30pm to 6pm and dinner from 6pm to 10pm daily. It is also open for lunch from 11.30am to 2.30pm daily except Mondays.
