Default Nikon D90 as a web cam ?

Hi,
I just got a Nikon D90, and am learning its workings now.
I'm wondering: the D90 having LiveView, video (and the ability to lock the mirror up) there shouldn't be an obstacle to use it as a high end web cam.
Has anyone used the D90 for that purpose ?
Bye,
Ron.

Hi RF,
So far, so good.
In two days I'm going on a snowboarding trip to Zermatt, so I'd have a chance to test the D90 under more challenging conditions (e.g., WB).
I bought it in Israel as the Nikon D90 18-105 Vr Kit where I exchanged the lens for the 18-200 VR lens.
So - probably not applicable for you. You can check http://www.nikonusa.com/Assets/Digital-SLR/25446-Nikon-D90/PDF/25446_D90_brochure.pdf for the contents.
Bye,
Ron.

Oooo, israel..... How much was it in USD? I've compared prices in M'sia n S'pore.... both are roughly the same, depends on the exchange rates..... difference is mainly due to 'free' gifts....

Why dont u upload some of your pix and vids here for us to see.... Thx.

RF, I'll find the price of D90 here in HK for you. I have a feeling it's a lot cheaper here.

Ok, thanks UC.... u in HK now? Howzit?

If much cheaper, will get FIL to get it from there.... Let me know wat sort of 'freebies' they throw in.... Coz i found in M'sia and S'g, both charging roughly about the same price, except more freebies given in SG..... Coz i think here, the price is set by Nikon? Just guessing...

Oh HK is fine-as usual busy-no sign of recession.

I simply walked by a shop at Central & asked the price of D90---no stock --but selling at HK$9,080.00 with a 18-105 mm len VR.

I am sure you still can knock down the price some more including freebies if you check around say at Times Square, Causeway Bay.

Farney, FIL says there's clearly signs of recession.... Restuarants/hawkers used to be full, now there's plenty of empty tables.....

Hmmm..... How much is that in RM?

If memory serves me right, it's SGD1.8k or RM4.2k respectively in SG n MSia.

Bye,
Ron.

Hi RF,

Bought my D90 in Nov last year for $4K in KL.

It's a happy purchase for me.

I have brought it out for a few mountain treks and shall be going to Mt Kinabalu later this month.

With Liveview taking video is simple though the camera does not autofocus nor track the subject. With only 720p and mono sound the camera can't replace a dedicated video camera.

Have fun!
