Question Local bus routes

People in Ipoh are lucky there is a fairly good public transport system to get them to most areas. I have chosen not to have a car so I use the buses frequently. I'm looking for information on buses which go out to the new Meru Jaya development. Does anyone know if the new bus station is yet operational?

I heard it is already in operation starting last September.

Do you think Ipoh public transport is good? I think you are the first to say that in my memory.

I think the bus system can be described as good, proof is that they are generally full and they service all the major shopping centres. Most of the older rattletraps have now been replaced with modern a/c buses which are quite comfortable and the only way to reduce congestion on the roads is for there to be a really efficient public transport system which I hope is in future planning for Ipoh.

Default Local Bus Routes

Found out today there is a local bus #116 which travels from Medan Kidd to Mydin at the new Bandar Meru Jaya. Two buses an hour so you will never need to wait long. I'ts good news for me as I can take this bus to visit my friends at Meru Valley which is very close to the new development.

Default Bus to Betong

The secret is out..there is a local bus from Ipoh to Betong. Two a day , 8am and 10am. The journey takes 3 1/2 hrs and costs RM17.30 one way, if you buy a return ticket it's a few RM cheaper. Bus is operated by the Roadways Company ( next to the service station near Medan Kidd). The bus terminates at the Malaysian border where Thai tuk-tuks take you the 5kms to Betong for RM5 each in a shared vehicle. Coming back, buses leave at 12.30pm and 3.30pm
