We met two Norwegian couples over dinner and found out that Denmark is actually the most expensive country in the Baltic region, followed by Norway, Sweden and Finland.

All their VAT (value added tax or sales tax) is at 25%. In addition, their income tax rates start from 30% and max out at 60%.

No wonder things are so expensive here. For example, a bottle of Coke or Pepsi purchased at the grocery store would cost between US$3.50 to $4, but at the tourist hot spots it would cost more than $9. When we sampled some finger food from the street side vendors, any bite size food would start at $4, such as a scoop of ice cream or 4 tiny bite size pancakes on a skewer. Post cards range from $1.50 to $2 each. Hot dogs or burgers would cost $7 to $10, a grilled chicken sandwich costs $23 and a cup of coffee at $10.

FYI, this is an unusual advertisement for a restaurant. Please note the name of the restaurant on the car door. LOL

One of the 5 "pedestrians only" streets, where shoppers and tourists flocked to.

FYI, 1.7 million inhabitants live in the Greater Copenhagen area, but the City of Copenhagen has only about 600,000 inhabitants.

Our next stop will be Tallinn, Estonia.

Estonia is a small, but very beautiful country, especially in old town Tallinn. When we got into old town to start our walking tour, we felt like walking back in time. This looks and feels like a medieval time. Most of the buildings here were built 700-800 years ago.

FYI, aside from tourism, Estonia is also known as the Silicone Valley of the Baltic region. Skype originated from here and free, secured WiFi is available throughout the entire city.

BTW, wild game meats are available from bears to elks to foxes and even raccoon dogs. Believe it or not?

Sorry to disappoint you, we didn't try any.

Town Square.

Jail House straight ahead.

The marker on this building stated that it was built in 1422.

One of our fellow ship passengers posed as a prisoner for a group of local students.
