Default Ipoh's Potential

I grew up in this city and I really love this place a lot. I can't help but to wonder why is Ipoh ain't growing as much as other cities in Malaysia. We have quite a high population, good location (near to both KL and Penang), good food, nice eco-environment, some historical places...We actually have the best of both world (big cities and small town) but yet this place is still so quiet for so many years.

Can someone tell me why?

This is the beauty of Ipoh. Lost in a time, forgotten by most and untouched by wayward developers. In time to come, people will visit her for its originality, history and most importantly, the way life as it was, slow and uncomplicated.

In comparison, cities like Malacca and Penang are ancient but being promoted as a tourism destination. This is their poison chalice.

Citizens want to make money, politicians want their cut, developers want to prove their prowess in building the best, the greatest and the biggest. In the end, the city loses its natural beauty, citizens lose their innocence, politicians lose their sense of fairness. And finally, the city loses its natural beauty and everything turns ugly.

But many youngsters find it hard to earn a living and majority of them have moved out. How?

Youngsters don't HAVE to earn a living in Ipoh. Go and see the world, find fame and fortune but keep sending money back to their old folks. Retirees save up all their money and retire in Ipoh. As long as money keeps rolling in, work will be there.

This brings to the question, 'how did Ipoh manage to survive for so long?'

Question

Someone told me Ipoh people are less adventurous. They are not willing to take risk. They would rather invest in mutual funds, fixed deposit, properties or share market rather than setting up a new business.

I don't know how true it is.

Yes, totally agree. Ipoh people are cash rich but income poor. Many inherited their wealth from parents (tin miners).

But I think mutual funds are quite popular in Ipoh. I know of a family, father, mother, son and daughter in law are all top Public Mutual Funds leaders. Their combine monthly income (commission and other benefits) easily over RM 50K.
