Default would you do this?

Hi everyone,

My 21 year old daughter took up fish rearing as a hobby. This girl really took every effort to set up a home for her pets. She would read extensively, monitor the water quality and prep the aquarium for weeks before putting in the fishes. She got very close to them especially with a Ram named Rudolph.

Recently Rupoldh fell sick and, could not swim upright and was struggling up to the surface now and then.

Knowing the end was near she took the poor thing, put it in a bag of water and left it in the freezer to end it's suffering. She reminded in her room the whole day.

This really broke my heart.

Given the same situation will you do the same? I know many of us put aged animals to sleep but it is always in somebody's else hands.

Hi CCW,

Very sorry to hear about this, but I don't have the heart to do the same thing if I am in her position.

I would rather let nature takes its course, as this what life on planet Earth about, first we enter this wonderful journey by birth, we live, get sick and in the end, all of us have to say goodbye to this beautiful and unusual world.

It applies to all living species on this planet.

Personal, I would let the fish die naturally-something we all are going to go through.

CCW,
I could see where you're coming from. Our daughter loves little animals, birds and fish. As she was growing up, we let her kept parrots, gold fish & sword fish, rabbits and chickens either inside our house or in the back yard, though not all at the same time. As a result, we had a pet cemetery by the side of our old house, where she burried all those that had passed away.
She has always been such a caring and loving person. Now that she is grown and has her first child, she is staying home to care for our granddaughter and refrained from caring & counseling for the old for at least a few years.

Well..... I would if I know for sure that the poor animal is suffering and just waiting for its time to come. I will make it as quick and as painless as possible.

Well Chine,

I am a bit curious here, in which way you'd make it as quick and as painless as possible?

I mean what kind of method are you thinking of ending the poor fish life?

Thanks for all your thoughts.

Her reasoning went something like this:

Everything perishes and there's no shame in that.

It's the process which was painful. Looking at Rudolph's glassy eyes and panicky movements, there was no dignity in that.

I thought it took more courage to do what she did than just let nature took it's course. Personally, I will do nothing.

Oldtimer, your daughter is all heart.

Didn't think about the fish bit. Was just thinking about the stray dogs that sometimes had to be put down....

Hi Chine,

I see, but I recalled some stray dogs being shot down by DBI men long time ago.......gosh...those stray dogs could sensed what is coming (they could sensed someone is going to end their lives with bullets).

The stray dogs start to ran and try to hide with crying sound.....but.....too late...they have been spotted and there is no escape!!!

I saw it with my own eyes, and that is a terrible sight to witness.

I had a fish a few months ago, and in a day, it had little bubble things all over him, then a few days after he died.. what would cause this? I think its something with the water because are water isnt that good.
