Fading interest in Mid-Autumn Festival

OTHER NEWS & VIEWS
Compiled by CHRISTINA TAN, NG SI HOOI and A. RAMAN

CHINESE citizens are putting less emphasis on the Mid-Autumn Festival now than in the past, Nanyang Siang Pau reported.

The paper quoted a survey carried out by a newspaper based in China, in which most of the interviewees said they would rather spend the auspicious day resting at home. The Mid-Autumn Festival fell on Wednesday.

About 52% of the respondents said they would not celebrate with their families during the festival.

Some people said they felt inconvenient to go back to their hometowns to celebrate the day since they worked in far-away places.

“Youths who were interviewed said they don’t feel the gaiety of the festival. To them, the festival was a day for them to rest at home,” the survey said.

I know there's nothing like the real thing, but my friend made these really yummy jelly mooncakes. There is alot of work involved in making them and they are definately alot healthier (Please excuse the blur photos).
