Hello CariMakan,
No lah, I am talking about when I was still living there.
I really felt that it was not that hot when I was younger...hehehehe.....
Last year over (OrangeLand) here also extremely hot, as there isn't any breeze at all, so kena duduk luar rumah (di balcony) sampai 12 midnight, then feeling a bit cool, have a cold shower then go to bed lor.
Whenever Europe got a heat wave.....habis lor!!!

AI,
I know in the SF Bay area for example, because of its cool weather, many homes have no central A/C system. Is that true at where you are, too?
Where I'm at, we need both A/C and Heating (cooling in summer and heating in winter).

Hi OT,
Most resident (normal residential) do not have aircon, they mainly use normal table or standing fan.
Over here they sale a cooling fan which blow cooling air with moist.
We use fan at home in the hot summer, and heating for winter. Offices and some people do use aircon in their home.
The summer across Europe is more or less (pressing) in cantonese 'gok', it makes a person feels very warm.
How about USA? Summer is nice and breezy or so warm and irritates?

AI,
It all depends on where you live. S8 in the NY area will have a warm to hot summer; lobak in LA tends to have a warm summer; our children live closer to the Pacific Ocean will have a cool to warm summer (i.e. mid to high 60's -high 80's F). Where I'm at, summer is dry and hot (more like where UC is). It ranges from 90's -100's F.

We in LDN are pretty similar to NY in that we do get pretty hot and stuffy summers. However, a lot of shops nowadays are pretty equipped with air conditioning units. However, buses and tubes have not been equipped with air con units. They are still trying to find a way of cooling the tubes down in the summer months but since the tube systems are mostly underground and over 60years old, there aren't much room to run cables through. The latest version is using a nearby water system to generate enough electricity in order to pump the cool air through. We, Londoners, live and hope for that day.
The older houses, like the Victorian, Edwardian, thatched or stone houses/cottages remains cool during the summer months.
As for us as a family, we use gas central heating in the winter, though I would love to change that to underfloor heating and in the summer we have air conditioning units, courtesy of Boleh.

kanden, I'm not sure whether or not Babel is the movie
I've just watched Babel which I remember that BBR has watched weeks ago:
the movie is like that movie called crash, revolves around lives of a few different people with different backgrounds in 4 different countries which somehow related to one another. babel, a story about miscommunication is more international if compared to crash since the plots take place in morocco, mexico, japan and the US. storyline is very deep however I'm missing the subtitles so I tried to understand the story just by their expressions n body language which is actually not too bad coz i did understand the storyline but i do wanna watch it again with subs. the cinematography is really amazing!
owh.. forgot to mention.. there's some full frontal nudity scene so in case ur watching the movie with kids, get ready to cover those eyes
Yes,something like this: in the remote sands of the Moroccan desert, a rifle shot rings out - detonating a chain of events that will link an American tourist (Brat Pitt) couple's frantic struggle to survive, two Moroccan boys involved in an accidental crime, a nanny illegally crossing into Mexico with two American children and a Japanese teen rebel (Koji Yakusho) whose father is sought by the police in Tokyo.......

S8,
wrt to "babel fish",
the movie i was refering to is the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy which is based on the book w the same name by Douglas Adams.
totally unrelated to the recent movie Babel (which i've just watched last weekend. not bad)

hi, hi, kanden, thanks for clarifying it, the "babel fish", i know now, just watched the movie, yeah, yeah, the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams. Cute cute dolphins and the singing so long, so long, so long; so long, so long, so long............thanks for all the fish, sth. like that...
and I found this http://babelfish.altavista.digital.com/tr Babel Fish Translation site is great...
how about a try to translate the following English into simplified Chinese:
The characteristics of a Pineapple Lover:
You are quick to decide and even quicker to act.
You are brave in asking career changes, if that is what is to your advantage.
You have exceptional organizing abilities and are undaunted by the size of the task at hand.
You tend to be self reliant, sincere and honest in your dealings with others.
Though you are not given to making friends very quickly, but once you do, it is for life.
You rarely, if ever, make romantic overtures.
Your partner is often impressed with your sterling qualities but disappointed in your ability to show affection.
cheers!
