Question Nod for Gulf Petroleum project in Perak

Wow, this is real big. Hopefully, it is not another made-up story.

By Hamisah Hamid

MALAYSIA has approved a US$5 billion (RM15.75 billion) integrated oil and gas complex project which will be carried out by Gulf Petroleum Ltd (GPL), a company backed by the Qatar royal family.

GPL director Nor Azmi Abdullah said the project's approval will open doors to more economic cooperation and investment activities from the Gulf countries to Malaysia.

"If everything goes according to plan, Malaysians may receive more good news on this project from us after this, particularly when we announce our consortium members from time to time," he said in a statement released in Kuala Lumpur yesterday.

Oil & gas refineries are usually located at a port. For the simple reason that most refineries export via tankers. Inland refineries nearly always have pipelines or dedicated railroads to move the crude in and the refined products out.

Personally I don't see the logic of Manjung. It is neither near source nor means of export.
