I find apocalypse now boring too. Remember watching it 3 yrs ago. Had to force myself to finish it with hope that the storyline will get better. Frustrating...

Hoo yeah! The flight of the valkyries was wicked! I think it was the precise moment i fell in love with helicopters!! Someone give me a Huey please!! Oh wait...the precise moment i fell in love with choppers was when Air Wolf came about! Anyone remember it???

Actually, i'm not a war film buff at all & usually cringe at them cos most of them are pro-americans how heroic they are bla bla bla someone pass me a bucket please!! ....& not about the real effects it can have on destroying people...not just physical damage but emotionally, mentally, spiritually. So besides apocolypse, i think Stanley Kubrick's Full Metal Damage is pretty damn good too. Also heard Platoon is awesome...anyone seen this yet?

I'm not a fan of pro american war flicks either (which is why I thought Pearl Harbour and Black Hawk Down totally sucked). I like you also like pics with something deeper in it rather than all those patriotic bs which is why the ones i like dont normally have the Yanks winning in the end. A few I'd rec: Das Boot, The Killing Fields, Glory, Zulu.

And who can leave out Full Metal Jacket? Fantastic show. Very funny in a sadistic kinda way esp in bootcamp. Quite a few memorable quotes also:

Gunnery Sergeant Hartman: God has a hard-on for marines because we kill everything we see!He plays His games, we play ours!God was here before the Marine Corps! So you can give your heart to Jesus, but your a## belongs to the Corps!
-------------------

Door Gunner: They ougtha write a book about me.
Private Joker: Why?
Door Gunner: For being the greatest soldier out there? I done killed me 157 Viet-Cong and 50 water buffalo.
Private Joker: How do you know who to shoot?
Door Gunner: Anyone that runs, is a Viet-Cong. Anyone that stands still, is a well-disciplined Viet-Cong.
Private Joker: Are there any women or children?
Door Gunner: A few.
Private Joker: How can you shoot women and children?
Door Gunner: Easy. You lead them less.
------------------
Gunnery Sergeant Hartman: Private Joker, why did you join my beloved Corps?
Private Joker: Sir, to kill sir!
Gunnery Sergeant Hartman: So you're a killer?
Private Joker: Sir, yes sir!
Gunnery Sergeant Hartman: Let me see your war face.
Private Joker: Sir?
Gunnery Sergeant Hartman: You got a war face? AHHHHHHHH! That's a war face. Now let me see your war face.
Private Joker: Ahh!
Gunnery Sergeant Hartman: Bulls##t! You didn't convince me. Let me see your real warface.
Private Joker: Ahhhh!

Lastly, the classic phrase from the Vietnamese call girl: Hey, you got girlfriend Vietnam? Me so h###y. Me love you long time.

Kekekeke totally bril show.

**N/B: some lines/quotes may be offensive 2 some**

Oops!! Yeah i meant Full Metal Jacket not Damage..what the hell was i thinking??

And don't forget to cue in "These Boots are made for walking" song as Viet prostitue waltzes in! Classiccc moment!! And Joker's reply 2 her "Hey baybee! U goh girlfriend in Vietnam?".
Joker (smirk) :
Not right this minute.

& later...
Viet girl: Me so h***y. Me love you too much. Hey, what you say? Number one p*ssy. Me love you too much."
Joker: How much?
Girl: 15 dolla
Joker: For both of us?
Girl: No each you 15 dolla

LOL...love that scene...More line wickedly funny (but thoughtful) lines:

Gunnery Sergeant Hartman:
Tonight, you men will sleep with your rifles. You will give your rifle a girl's name because this is the only p*ssy you people are going to get. Your days of f****r-p*****g ol' Mary J. Rottenc****h through her pretty pink p*****s are over! You're married to this piece. This weapon of iron and wood. And you will be faithful.
----
Gunnery Sergeant Hartman:
How tall are you, private?
Private Cowboy:
Sir, five-foot-nine, sir.
Gunnery Sergeant Hartman:
Five-foot-nine, I didn't know they stacked shit that high.

---
Joker about to end the life of a Vietcong sniper, after finding out that it's a woman:
I try to decide what I would want if I were down, half dead, hurting bad, surrounded by my enemies. I look into her eyes, trying to find the answer. She sees me. She recognizes me - I am the one who will end her life. We share a bloody intimacy.
---
Private Joker:
A day without blood is like a day without sunshine.

Endorphin...glad 2 find someone who's in2 pretty much the same flicks as me! Haven't seen those films u've recommended but will definitely b on the lookout 4 em next time i'm at the video store!!

If you love or hate Blackhawk Down, try reading this site, where our RMA are honoured, along with the Pakistanies, and of course the Delta's and Ranger's (RLTW).

Cheers.

Siren,

Heheh I thought of includin those quotes in as well but chickened out as it some might find it offensive.

Btw not a big fan of Airwolf. Platoon is okay but I kinda found it slightly melodramatic.

Oh yeah...about Black Hawk Down...try getting the Special Edition DVD that provides a different ending...where it suggests a less pro-American ending than the original. Now I wonder why Ridley Scott wasn't allowed 2 have that ending, ay..?

Oh Ya, I remember Black Hawk Down, It was us the Malaysians (together with the Pakistanis) that saved them with the APCs. Apparently, no national army personnel knew how to operate and drive the Belgian made Armed Personnel Carriers. One of our fellas even died saving the American Asses. MAlaysia Boleh and hopefuuly our guy who died was reborn in heaven for his life -saving effort.
