Regarding Constipation

Many people swear by bananas as a laxative, but don't trust your gut reaction. Traditional Chinese medicine says bananas are not a cure-all when it comes to constipation. The bowels and their movement problems are very complicated, and all about yin and yang. In fact, there are six very different kinds of constipation, according to TCM.

Persistent constipation is caused by a variety of internal energy problems, requiring different treatments.

Excessive heat (yang energy), stagnant energy and insufficient energy or blood may all lead to constipation. Bananas, which are cool yin energy, are good for constipation caused by too much yang energy. But believe it or not, bananas don't help other kinds of constipation.

Which kind of constipation do you have?

Regular bowel movements are important for good health as they eliminate toxins in waste. Buildup of toxins is unhealthy as they can be reabsorbed. Bowel movements less than three times a week with a dry and hard stool is a sign of constipation.

Around 3 to 15 percent of the Chinese population suffer constipation, according to Yang Yuexin, chief of the Nutrition and Healthy Food Branch of the Chinese Nutrition Society.

More city people than rural people suffer constipation as it is linked to severe psychological pressure, fatigue, lack of physical exercise and insufficient water intake.

Persistent constipation may cause acne, facial discoloration, hemorrhoids and damage to the liver and intestines. Constipation in elderly cardiac patients can cause myocardial infarction or necrosis in heart tissue.

The two main causes of constipation are lack of fluid nourishment in the intestines and generally weak internal energy flow, making it difficult to move the bowels, according to Dr Gu Yun, chief physician of the Geriatrics Department of Longhua Hospital attached to Shanghai University of TCM. Problems of the spleen, stomach, liver and kidneys can contribute to constipation.

Excessive heat (yang energy) in the stomach usually causes intestinal dryness and makes it difficult to move bowels. Problems are also caused by insufficient energy in the spleen, stagnation of liver energy (this could cause "pathogenic fire"), insufficient kidney yin energy and generally insufficient yang energy.

TCM classifies constipation into six categories according to their different causes: excessive heat in digestive system, stagnation of energy flow, insufficient energy, insufficient blood, insufficient yin energy and insufficient yang energy.

Many Chinese people automatically assume constipation is caused by excessive heat and eat "cold" foods, like bananas, for relief.

"But bananas and other 'cold' energy foods only work for constipation caused by excessive heat-they won't do any good in other cases," says Dr Gu. In fact, he says, eating "cold" foods can damage the already-weak but healthy energy of a constipated person, worsen the constipation problem and lead to other health problems.

People with chronic constipation should see a doctor.

Those with insufficient energy and blood need to reinforce energy. Those who suffer from stagnating energy need herbal treatment to unblock energy channels.

Do not overuse laxatives, even TCM herbs, since dependence can cause pathology changes in the colon, possibly causing cancer, says Dr Gu.

Patients who use TCM herbs should quit after a period and develop the habit of a daily bowel movement. They should drink plenty of water, eat more fruit and vegetable fiber (especially coarse fiber like celery, corn, oats), and exercise.

Try massaging the belly with both hands, clockwise for 15 minutes twice a day.

Foods to promote soft stools and ease bowel movements (in cases of excessive heat or energy stagnation) include banana, papaya, orange, milk and yogurt.

Foods to relieve constipation (due to insufficient energy and blood) include walnuts, sesame, almonds and other oil-rich nuts.

Hawthorne can relieve constipation caused by eating too much high-protein and fatty food.

Relieving constipation:

Oat milk congee

Ingredients: oats, milk, honey to sweeten.

Preparation: Heat milk, add oats, stir on gentle heat until it thickens.

Eat regularly for breakfast.

Function: Helps relieve any kind of constipation; oats are a high-fiber laxative.

White fungus and pinenut soup

Ingredients: white fungus (15g), pine nuts (9g), honey to sweeten.

Preparation: Soak ingredients in hot water for 10-20 minutes. Make soup in a cooker.

Function: Helps relieve constipation by reinforcing yin energy, especially in the elderly.

Sesame and shou wu (knotweed) congee

Ingredients: shou wu (15g), dang gui (angelica, 10g), huang qi (milk veteh, 10g), honey to sweeten.

Preparation: Cook soup with shou wu, angelica and milk veteh. Filter and make congee with sesame and rice.

Eat often.

Function: Helps relieve constipation caused by insufficient energy or blood, common in children, the elderly and women who have given birth.

Mulberry jelly

Ingredients: Mulberries, konjac (tuber) powder.

Preparation: Press juice from mulberries, add konjac powder. Heat and stir. Put in molds, allow to cool.

Eat often.

Function: Mulberry reinforces the blood and nourishes yin energy. Konjac is low in calories and high in fiber, eases constipation.

Varieties of constipation:

Excessive heat in digestive system

Symptoms: dry stool, red tongue with yellow coating, stomach ache, distention, irritation, feeling hot and thirsty.

Stagnation of energy

Symptoms: difficulty moving bowels though stool is not dry, coated tongue, stomach ache and distention, belching, poor appetite.

Insufficient energy

Symptoms: pale tongue with white coating, difficulty moving bowels though stool is not dry, sweating easily, feeling fatigued, feeling exhausted after bowel movement.

Insufficient blood

Symptoms: dry stool, pale face, white coating on tongue, insomnia, poor memory.

Insufficient yin

Symptoms: dry stool (small pebbles), red tongue, thin in stature, frequent dizziness, lack of strength, night sweats.

Insufficient yang

Symptoms: difficulty moving bowels though stool isn't dry, pale in appearance, stomach ache, pain in lower back and knees, relieved by application of heat.

Living to a 100 years

By Deborah Kotz

The biggest factor that determines how well you age is not your genes but how well you live. Not convinced?

A new study published in the British Medical Journal of 20,000 British folks shows that you can cut your risk of having a stroke in half by doing the following four things: being active for 30 minutes a day, eating five daily servings of fruit and vegetables, and avoiding cigarettes and excess alcohol.
While those are some of the obvious steps you can take to age well, researchers have discovered that centenarians tend to share certain traits in how they eat, move about, and deal with stress—the sorts of things we can emulate to improve our own aging process. Of course, getting to age 100 is enormously more likely if your parents did. Still, Thomas Perls, who studies the century-plus set at Boston University School of Medicine, believes that assuming you've sidestepped genes for truly fatal diseases like Huntington's, "there's nothing stopping you from living independently well into your 90s." Heck, if your parents and grandparents were heavy smokers, they might have died prematurely without ever reaching their true potential lifespan, so go ahead and shoot for those triple digits by following these 10 habits.

1. Don't retire. "Evidence shows that in societies where people stop working abruptly, the incidence of obesity and chronic disease skyrockets after retirement," says Luigi Ferrucci, director of the Baltimore Longitudinal Study of Aging. The Chianti region of Italy, which has a high percentage of centenarians, has a different take on leisure time. "After people retire from their jobs, they spend most of the day working on their little farm, cultivating grapes or vegetables," he says. "They're never really inactive." Farming isn't for you? Volunteer as a docent at your local art museum or join the Experience Corps, a program offered in 19 cities that places senior volunteers in urban public elementary schools for about 15 hours a week.

2. Floss every day. That may help keep your arteries healthy. A 2008 New York University study showed that daily flossing reduced the amount of gum-disease-causing bacteria in the mouth. This bacteria is thought to enter the bloodstream and trigger inflammation in the arteries, a major risk factor for heart disease. Other research has shown that those who have high amounts of bacteria in their mouth are more likely to have thickening in their arteries, another sign of heart disease. "I really do think people should floss twice a day to get the biggest life expectancy benefits," stresses Perls.

3. Move around. "Exercise is the only real fountain of youth that exists," says Jay Olshansky, a professor of medicine and aging researcher at the University of Illinois at Chicago. "It's like the oil and lube job for your car. You don't have to do it, but your car will definitely run better." Study after study has documented the benefits of exercise to improve your mood, mental acuity, balance, muscle mass, and bones. "And the benefits kick in immediately after your first workout," Olshansky adds. Don't worry if you're not a gym rat. Those who see the biggest payoffs are the ones who go from doing nothing to simply walking around the neighborhood or local mall for about 30 minutes a day. Building muscle with resistance training is also ideal, but yoga classes can give you similar strength-training effects if you're not into weight lifting.

4. Eat a fiber-rich cereal for breakfast. Getting a serving of whole-grains, especially in the morning, appears to help older folks maintain stable blood sugar levels throughout the day, according to a recent study conducted by Ferrucci and his colleagues. "Those who do this have a lower incidence of diabetes, a known accelerator of aging," he says.

5. Get at least six hours of shut-eye. Instead of skimping on sleep to add more hours to your day, get more to add years to your life. "Sleep is one of the most important functions that our body uses to regulate and heal cells," says Ferrucci. "We've calculated that the minimum amount of sleep that older people need to get those healing REM phases is about six hours." Those who reach the century mark make sleep a top priority.

6. Consume whole foods, not supplements. Strong evidence suggests that people who have high blood levels of certain nutrients—selenium, beta-carotene, vitamins C and E—age much better and have a slower rate of cognitive decline. Unfortunately, there's no evidence that taking pills with these nutrients provides those antiaging benefits. "There are more than 200 different carotenoids and 200 different flavonoids in a single tomato," points out Ferrucci, "and these chemicals can all have complex interactions that foster health beyond the single nutrients we know about like lycopene or vitamin C." Avoid nutrient-lacking white foods (breads, flour, sugar) and go for all those colorful fruits and vegetables and dark whole-grain breads and cereals with their host of hidden nutrients.

7. Be less neurotic. It may work for Woody Allen, who infuses his worries with a healthy dose of humor, but the rest of us neurotics may want to find a new way to deal with stress. "We have a new study coming out that shows that centenarians tend not to internalize things or dwell on their troubles," says Perls. "They are great at rolling with the punches." If this inborn trait is hard to overcome, find better ways to manage when you're stressed: Yoga, exercise, meditation, tai chi, or just deep breathing for a few moments are all good. Ruminating, eating chips in front of the TV, binge drinking? Bad, very bad.

8. Live like a Seventh Day Adventist. Americans who define themselves as Seventh Day Adventists have an average life expectancy of 89, about a decade longer than the average American. One of the basic tenets of the religion is that it's important to cherish the body that's on loan from God, which means no smoking, alcohol abuse, or overindulging in sweets. Followers typically stick to a vegetarian diet based on fruits, vegetables, beans, and nuts, and get plenty of exercise. They're also very focused on family and community.

9. Be a creature of habit. Centenarians tend to live by strict routines, says Olshansky, eating the same kind of diet and doing the same kinds of activities their whole lives. Going to bed and waking up at the same time each day is another good habit to keep your body in the steady equilibrium that can be easily disrupted as you get on in years. "Your physiology becomes frailer when you get older," explains Ferrucci, "and it's harder for your body to bounce back if you, say, miss a few hours of sleep one night or drink too much alcohol." This can weaken immune defenses, leaving you more susceptible to circulating flu viruses or bacterial infections.

10. Stay connected. Having regular social contacts with friends and loved ones is key to avoiding depression, which can lead to premature death, something that's particularly prevalent in elderly widows and widowers. Some psychologists even think that one of the biggest benefits elderly folks get from exercise the strong social interactions that come from walking with a buddy or taking a group exercise class. Having a daily connection with a close friend or family member gives older folks the added benefit of having someone watch their back. "They'll tell you if they think your memory is going or if you seem more withdrawn," says Perls, "and they might push you to see a doctor before you recognize that you need to see one yourself."

Exclamation The danger of eating chicken wings for ladies!!!

Chicken Wings - Its Dangerous

Avoid eating chicken wings frequently - ladies, especially; a true story...!

A friend of mine recently had a growth in her womb and she underwent an operation to remove the.
The cyst removed was filled with a dark colored blood. She thought that she would be recovered after the surgery but! she was terribly wrong..

A relapse occurred just a few months later. Distressed , she rushed down to her gynecologist for a consultation.

During her consultation, her doctor asked her a question that puzzled her.
He ask if she was a frequent consumer of chicken wings and she replied yes wondering as to how, he knew of her eating habits.

You see, the truth is in this modern day and age; chickens are injected with steroids to accelerate their growth so that the needs of this society can be met.
This need is none other than the need for food.

Chickens that are injected with steroids are usually given the shot at the neck or the wings.
Therefore, it is in these places that the highest concentration of steroids exists.
These steroids have terrifying effects on the body as it accelerates growth..
It has an even more dangerous effect in the presence of female hormones, this leads to women being more prone to the growth of a cyst in the womb.. Therefore, I advise the people out there to watch their diets and to lower their frequency of consuming chicken wings!

People, who receive this email, please forward it to your friends and loved ones. I am sure no one wants to see him or her suffer!

The top five cancer-causing foods are:

Hot Dogs

Because they are high in nitrates, the Cancer Prevention Coalition advises that children eat no more than 12 hot dogs a month. If you can't live without hot dogs, buy those made without sodium nitrate.

Processed meats and bacon

Also high in the same sodium nitrates found in hot dogs, bacon, and other processed meats raise the risk of heart disease. The saturated fat in bacon also contributes to cancer.

Doughnuts

Doughnuts are cancer-causing double trouble... First, they are made with white flour, sugar, and hydrogenated oils, then fried at high temperatures. Doughnuts, says Adams , may be the worst food you can possibly eat to raise your risk of cancer.

French fries

Like doughnuts, French fries are made with hydrogenated oils and then fried at high temperatures. They also contain cancer- causing acryl amides which occur during the frying process..

Chips, crackers, and cookies

All are usually made with white flour and sugar. Even the ones whose labels claim to be free of trans-fats generally contain small amounts of trans-fats.

Exclamation Brain damaging habits!!

1. No Breakfast

People who do not take breakfast are going to have a lower blood sugar level.
This leads to an insufficient supply of nutrients to the brain causing brain degeneration.

2. Overeating

It causes hardening of the brain arteries, leading to a decrease in mental power.

3. Smoking

It causes multiple brain shrinkage and may lead to Alzheimer disease.

4. High Sugar consumption

Too much sugar will interrupt the absorption of proteins and nutrients causing malnutrition and may interfere with brain development.

5. Air Pollution

The brain is the largest oxygen consumer in our body. Inhaling polluted air decreases the supply of oxygen to the brain, bringing about a decrease in brain efficiency.

6. Sleep Deprivation

Sleep allows our brain to rest. Long term deprivation from sleep will accelerate the death of brain cells.

7. Head covered while sleeping

Sleeping with the head covered increases the concentration of carbon dioxide and decrease concentration of oxygen that may lead to brain damaging effects.

8. Working your brain during illness

Working hard or studying with sickness may lead to a decrease in effectiveness of the brain as well as damage the brain.

9. Lacking in stimulating thoughts

Thinking is the best way to train our brain, lacking in brain stimulation thoughts may cause brain shrinkage.

10. Talking Rarely

Intellectual conversations will promote the efficiency of the brain

Exclamation The main causes of damaging liver...

The main causes of liver damage are:

1. Sleeping too late and waking up too late are main cause.
2. Not urinating in the morning.
3. Too much eating.
4. Skipping breakfast.
5. Consuming too much medication.
6. Consuming too much preservatives, additives, food coloring, and artificial sweetener.
7. Consuming unhealthy cooking oil. As much as possible reduce cooking oil use when frying, which includes even the best cooking oils like olive oil. Do not consume fried foods when you are tired, except if the body is very fit.
8. Consuming raw (overly done) foods also add to the burden of liver.
Veggies should be eaten raw or cooked 3-5 parts. Fried veggies should be finished in one sitting, do not store.

We should prevent this without necessarily spending more. We just have to adopt a good daily lifestyle and eating habits. Maintaining good eating habits and time condition are very important for our bodies to absorb and get rid of unnecessary chemicals according to 'schedule.'

Regarding the email on chicken wings's effect on women is misleading.

If any steriod is in the chicken, it will be through feedmeal.

Wine Adds Five Years to Life, More Than Beer, Dutch Study Finds By Eva von Schaper

April 30 (Bloomberg) -- Half a glass of wine a day may add five years to your life, a new study suggests. Drink beer, and you’ll live only 2 1/2 years longer.

Dutch researchers followed 1,373 men for more than four decades, noting their eating and drinking habits. Men who had about 20 grams of alcohol daily -- equivalent to a half a glass of wine -- had 2 1/2 years added to their life expectancy at age 50, compared with men who didn’t drink at all, according to the research published today in the Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health. Men who consumed only wine had twice as much added longevity.

Light alcohol intake was linked to lower cardiovascular, cerebrovascular and overall mortality in the study. Researchers had known that moderate drinking is tied to a lower risk of heart disease, possibly because of an increase in high density lipoprotein or so-called good cholesterol as well as a reduction in platelet clumping, making it more unlikely for clots to form. It is the first study to show that one kind of alcohol is superior to others in prolonging life, the researchers said.

“In this study, 70 percent of all wine consumed was red wine,” the researchers, led by Marinette Streppel of the University of Wageningen in the Netherlands, said in the paper. “This suggests that the cardioprotective effect of wine could be due to a protective effect of polyphenol compounds in red wine, but other explanations cannot be ruled out.”

Polyphenols are chemical substances found in plants such as tannins and flavonoids.

The research, dubbed Zutphen Study after the Dutch town from which the participants were recruited, followed men born between 1900 and 1920 and examined them several times between 1960 and 2000.

Regular BJ n swallow good for women.

(AP) -- Women who perform the act of fellatio and swallow semen on a regular basis, one to two times a week, may reduce their risk of breast cancer by up to 40 percent, a North Carolina State University study found.
Doctors had never suspected a link between the act of fellatio and breast cancer, but new research being performed at North Carolina State University is starting to suggest that there could be an important link between the two.
