MB may go on monthly bus rides
TAKING a bus ride to check the cleanliness and upkeep of Ipoh should be on the agenda of the newly appointed Datuk Bandar Datuk Mohamad Rafiai Moktar.
Perak Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamad Tajol Rosli Ghazali said he was happy with the pledge of Mohamad Rafiai who wanted to focus on the council’s core business of “drain, grass and rubbish.”
“I hope to be able to take a bus ride around the city once a month to check on remote places,” Tajol Rosli said after witnessing the swearing-in of the new Datuk Bandar at his office in Ipoh yesterday.
“Usually we can tell that the main roads are clean because we pass them every day but we don’t know about the remote places,” he said.
“So taking a bus ride every month should give us the chance to check on those areas,” he added.
Tajol Rosli also suggested that the council adopted Jakarta’s way of greening its city and Palembang’s method of keeping the city clean.
Palembang used motorcycle squads to keep the city clean while Jakarta greened its city by putting up fences made of tea tree, he said.
He added that the council could learn from the two cities on how to keep the city green and clean.
Earlier, Mohamad Rafiai pledged that the council’s core business was in keeping drains clean, grass cut and rubbish collected.
“We need to keep our environment clean to maintain the image of Ipoh as a city,” he added.
